OZ Luxury Hotel Cartagena

Cartagena de Indias, capital of the Bolivar department, is by its own merit the most visited corner of Colombia. In its streets the classic colonial architecture is mixed with the urban art, because the city has grown and evolved without leaving aside the essence of which was for centuries one of the most important ports of South America.

History
History

The great commercial activity of this port between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries, attracted a great wealth, but also made Cartagena de Indias the target of pirates and corsairs, which forced the city to become a fortress.

The strength of its walls has preserved them to this day, when they continue to limit the most authentic area of the city: its historic centre, which in 1984 was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco.

We invite you to visit the Torre del Reloj , the Plaza de los Coches, where you will find the palenqueras wearing their colourful costumes and carrying baskets of fruit to sell, the Cathedral of Santa Catalina of Alejandría and, of course, to walk the cobbled streets that inspired Gabriel García Márquez.

Art
Art

Very close to the fortified area you will find the colourful neighbourhood of Gotsemaní. We suggest you start your walk in the Plaza de la Santísima Trinidad and get lost in its streets full of murals and small art shops. A real open-air museum!

If you are interested in the world of art, the Museum of Modern Art is just a five-minute drive from our establishment and you will find works by artists such as Enrique Grau, Alejandro Obregón, Cecilia Porras and Hernando Lemaitre.

Beaches
Beaches

Just 150 meters from the hotel you will find the beach of Bocagrande, but that is just one of the many options that Cartagena de Indias offers if you are looking to enjoy the sandy beaches bathed by the Caribbean Sea. The Castillogrande Beach or El Laguito Beach are two other good options to enjoy the sun without leaving the city.

We recommend you not to miss the Tierra Bomba Island, a paradise of crystal clear waters and white sand, located off the coast of Cartagena.
